Lecture:
7:00
pm Murray
is considered a leader
in the “painterly
photography” movement.
Her unique images are
individually hand-painted
from enlarged Polaroids
she has drawn on when
the emulsion
is still soft. Learn
how she blurs and
merges the edges
to soften contours
and introduce
more of her own
vision
and color. In her
demonstration
she will show how
to use oils, pastels,
and colored pencils
to create a unique
photograph. Murray’s
work has been seen
in one-woman
shows throughout
Japan, France,
and
the United States.
It is available
at Photography
West
Gallery
in Carmel.

Artist
Demonstration 2:00
to 5 pm Photographer,
painter, author, and
gardener Murray is best
known for helping restore
Monet’s
gardens in Giverny, France.
Influenced by more than
two decades of photographing
Monet’s
gardens, Murray takes
SX-70 Polaroids
and renders the soft emulsion
like a painting. Printing
enlargements on watercolor
paper, she then hand-colors
with oils, colored pencils,
and pastels. This lecture
and demonstration promises
to be both fun and inspiring.
Murray has taught her
technique as a path to
creativity to “awaken
the artist within.” In
a world often too attached
to perfection and technology
she is teaching softening,
non-perfection, playfulness,
and experimentation. |

Rendezvous in Monet's Garden Columbus
Museum of Art Elizabeth
Murray—photographer,
author, and gardener—will
share her experiences
assisting with the restoration
of Monet’s
Garden at Giverny. Her
photographs in all seasons
illustrate the story
of
Monet the painter, the
gardener, and the man.
She will reveal the
design elements, color,
and plant combinations
that Monet used to create
this great work of art—his
garden. All proceeds benefit the CMA Russell Page Sculpture Garden |
